Women’s basketball travels to ESU

After knocking off Emporia State earlier this season in Hays, the No. 3/1 Fort Hays State women’s basketball team will look to complete the regular season sweep of Emporia State for the first time since 2014-15 Wednesday (Jan. 16) when the Tigers travel to Emporia, Kan. First tip from White Auditorium is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Tigers carry a 15-0 overall record into the contest, including a 6-0 mark in MIAA action. Fort Hays State continues to lead the nation in controlling the ball, turning the ball over just 10.3 times per game. They are one of two programs ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring as well as points against (Indiana University of Pennsylvania).

The Tigers are 34-49 all-time against Emporia State, including an 11-26 mark in Emporia. FHSU has won three straight against the Lady Hornets, one shy of the Tigers’ best win streak in series history. The teams have split the last 10 meetings. Tony Hobson is 8-16 against ESU, including a 1-8 record in Emporia.

Emporia State heads into the week 11-4 overall after dropping two of its last three contests. The Lady Hornets sit in ninth in the MIAA standings with a 2-3 mark in conference play. ESU leads the league from behind the arc, ranking first in three-point percentage (38.6) and 3pt makes per game (8.8). Tyra Jones is one of four Lady Hornets averaging 10 or more points per contest, leading the squad with 15.0 points each night. Jessica Wayne corralls a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game while Addie Lackey leads the way by distributing 3.0 assists each outing.
