Men’s cross country 3rd among DII teams

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Fort Hays State men’s cross country team third among Division II teams and eighth overall as they completed the Chile Pepper Festival Saturday morning (Sept. 22), finishing with 273 team points. The University of Arkansas hosted the event. A total of 49 teams and 440 individuals took part in the eight-kilometer race.

Seppe van ‘t Westende was the first Tiger across the finish line, completing the race in 25:32.9 to finish 38th overall. Reed Rome finished 63rd overall after navigating the course in 25:55.7. Brett Meyer crossed the finish line 68th overall recording a time of 25:57.8. Layton Werth turned in a time of 25:58.6 to place 70th, while Alex Barbosa (26:01.1) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers in 74th.

Arkansas secured the team title after totaling just 38 team points. Missouri Southern was the top MIAA team placing sixth with 224 points.

The Tigers will return to action next week as they travel over to Lawrence, Kan. to compete in the Rim Rock Farm Collegiate Classic Saturday (Sept. 29). The race is set to commence at 10 a.m.
