Men up to No. 12; women at No. 13 in latest track rankings

NEW ORLEANS – Both Fort Hays State track and field teams continue their streaks of being ranked in the Top 25 of the latest USTFCCCA Coaches’ Poll. The latest installment tabbed the men at No. 12, while the women stand at No. 13 in the rankings released Tuesday (April 24).

The FHSU women earned 7.69 points while the men captured 81.86. The points were tabulated from the computer-based system within the poll. On the women’s side, the Tigers are one of four MIAA to earn a mention alongside No. 9 Lincoln, No. 10 Pittsburg State and No. 23 Missouri Southern. Three conference programs for the men also made the list, led by No. 1 Pittsburg State and No. 15 Central Missouri.

Madison Wolf and Alexcia Deutscher continue to lead the women as they consistently finish high in the javelin. In the most recent meet, Madison Wolf continues to dominate as she claimed first at the KU Relays with her throw of 155 feet, 3 inches. Deutscher placed in the runner-up position at 152 feet, 4 inches. In California over the weekend, Lindsay Roberts set a new school record in the 1,500-meters with a strong time of 4:35.61. Kelly Wycoff also posted an impressive time in the 400-meters, running a time of 54.84 to be the top Division II competitor in the race, while finishing ninth among the field.

The men’s side remains led by Brett Meyer and Decano Cronin who both posted impressive performances in California over the weekend. Meyer earned an automatic mark in the 1,500-meters with his time of 3:43.64. This mark was 0.6 off breaking a long-standing FHSU record. Meyer finished as the second-best Division II runner in the field. Cronin once again broke the school record in the 800-meters in California while capturing an automatic qualifying time of 1:48.47. Meyer placed third in this same event at 1:50.15 to earn a provisional.
