KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State sprinter Malcom Gardner was named the MIAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week on April 16 for his efforts at the UNK Loper Invitational last week in Kearney, Neb. This is the second conference track athlete of the week honor for Gardner this year. He also earned the distinction on March 19.

Gardner won the 200 meters at the UNK Loper Invitational with a time of 20.97 seconds. It was a provisional mark for Gardner, who moved up to fourth on the national performance list. He is the fourth men’s athlete at the Division II level this year to run a wind-legal sub-21 second time. He owns the second-fastest time in the MIAA this season, only behind national leader NaRon Rollins of Pittsburg State.

Gardner also ran the 400 meters at the meet and placed second with a time of 49.05 seconds and was a member of the 4×100 meter team that finished second at the meet in a time of 41.86 seconds.
