2017 Homecoming Candidates: Wyatt and Glassman

Get to know your Homecoming Candidates:

Alexis-Athena Wyatt

Nicholas Glassman

Name, hometown, year, major:

Alexis-Athena Wyatt (hyphenated first name, like Mary-Kate!), Colorado Springs, CO, Junior, and English Education!

Nicholas Glassman: Hays KS, Senior, Double major in Accounting and Management

What is your sign:

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: Leo!

Nicholas Glassman: Aries

What do you want to be after college and why?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: I am hoping to be an English high school teacher because one of my high school English teacher was such an incredible mentor in my life and so supportive of my values and goals and passions (we still text and visit all the time, and I just went to her baby shower!), and I want to be able to be that support system and role model for other young women and students. I am passionate about English and literature and writing, but I’m more passionate about making those connections with people and giving them the same feeling of inclusion and guidance that I received from my English teacher!

Nicholas Glassman: A college graduate, because after 6 years I will very excited to be done.

What are your long-term goals?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: I hope to have a teaching position in English in which I am able to be a strong role model for young women and students and help them reach their passions and discover their goals and the things they want from their life. In my head, I will also be doing all the things that I want to do but don’t have time to because COLLEGE IS HARD, so I’ll hopefully be doing some yoga and in a book club where I don’t have to worry about writing a critical analysis over it later.

Nicholas Glassman: In 5 years, I would like to be living in California and have a full-time job with the Walt Disney Company.

What are your short-term goals?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: I’m an RA, so hopefully get closer to the other residents in my building! I love making connections with people and I want them to know that I’m a support system that they can go to. I’m also doing Early Field Observations for the teaching program, so I’d like to learn more about teaching and how I will teach when the time comes. I’d also like to get more involved in the Community Service Committee that the Fort Hays Honor Society has created and I’d like to run for another executive/officer position in my sorority because I love giving back to Delta Zeta and serving them in any way I can.

Nicholas Glassman: Finish with no more than 1 C. Income Tax Procedure is killer.

What are some of greatest strengths?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: I think some of my greatest strengths are my compassion and authenticity. I work hard every day to make sure I show kindness to those around me (my motto is “Have Courage and Be Kind” because I aspire to be a Disney princess!) and I want everyone to know they matter to FHSU. I also relate to other people and show them that I’m far from perfect but I still am able to make a difference on campus and be part of this Tiger family!

Nicholas Glassman: I’m a great people person and will find the best in everyone.

What is one thing people do not usually know about you?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: I have worked at Jiffy Lube as a hood technician for the past four years! I am trained in vehicle preventative maintenance, so oil changes and transmission flushes, etc. I always work there full-time on our school breaks back in Colorado!

Nicholas Glassman: I love to swim!

What are you most excited about when it comes to homecoming?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: I am so excited for the parade because I just want to wave like a princess (practicing by watching The Princess Diaries)! I am also very excited that my family is coming because they live five hours away, so it’s harder to see them, but I’m so excited that this gives them an excuse to get out of work and stuff so we can be together again!

Nicholas Glassman: Seeing all the Tiger Fam Bam come together!

What has been your greatest memory at FHSU?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: I have so many great memories at FHSU! One of my favorite memories was probably when we had a Delta Zeta sisterhood retreat. We planned on going to a lake and staying in a cabin, but it was pouring outside that weekend, so we had to change our plans very last minute. We ended up camping inside our house and called it Camp Delta Zeta. It was our very last semester in our old house on the 6th street since we live on campus now and it was an incredible way to make one last big memory there. We had a fort building competition and mattress surfed and told scary stories and had the time of our lives – AND we had Lomato’s cream cheese pizza, which is heaven in your mouth.

Nicholas Glassman: Too many to count, but one of the best was going to Vegas for the Alpha Kappa Psi Convention!

What are you involved in at FHSU?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: Delta Zeta (Academic Chair), Honors College, Fort Hays Honor Society, Residential Life (RA), Disability Awareness Week, Writing Center, Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society), Encounter, English Curriculum Committee

Nicholas Glassman: I’m involved in Student Government Association, Alpha Kappa Psi, Fraud Club, Economics Club, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Do you have any tips, words of advice to other aspiring student leaders?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: My advice is to get involved because Fort Hays is what you make it! If you want a community – a family – then you should get involved and make those connections! FHSU is such a welcoming place with so many amazing, inclusive people – you just need to take that first step and decide to get involved!

Nicholas Glassman: “Always be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle you know nothing about.” – Plato

Random questions:

Hilary Duff or Lindsay Lohan?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: Hilary Duff – have you ever seen A Cinderella Story? Perfection.

Nicholas Glassman: Hillary Duff!

If you could have any superpower what would it be and why? (I swear to Aunt Jemima, you better not say flying!)

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: The ability to produce anything I want. I would be popping out food whenever I got hungry. I would also travel so that I could help end world hunger and build shelters and facilities for those in need.

Nicholas Glassman: To speak/sign every known language.

What is your least favorite Disney movie?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: Um, can you have a least favorite Disney movie?! … If I had to decide, I guess Cars 2 was pretty rough (does Disney Pixar count?). Cars 3 made up for it though!

Nicholas Glassman: There is no least favorite Disney movie.

Favorite genre of music?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: Pop music because I’m mainstream and it’s easy to dance to.

Nicholas Glassman: I love the piano! So any songs including the piano have got my attention.

Favorite holiday and why?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: Easter because I love the colors and the sense of community between everyone. And I love seeing all of my family members at Easter lunch!

Nicholas Glassman: Christmas, because everyone is in a great mood!

Which building on campus would you go to first in a zombie apocalypse?

Alexis-Athena Wyatt: Tiger Village because you need card access to get into the building, and then card access into each house of the building, and finally card access into your own room, and I’m constantly locking myself out of my room just trying to brush my teeth when I wake up in the morning.

Nicholas Glassman: The Memorial Union, because there are many different options to hide out and make a bunker, besides just a bunch of classrooms
