Tiger Athletics Shows Dominance on the Road

BY TRISTAN SASSE

Fort Hays State University had multiple teams starting their 2017 campaign on Thursday, August 31. The football team began play in Joplin, Missouri against Missouri Southern, and the women’s soccer team started action in Topeka, Kansas against Southwest Minnesota State. They will also be playing in Topeka on Saturday.

The Tiger football team looked to build off one of the best seasons in school history. They showed major signs of dominance Thursday night and defeated Missouri Southern, 48-7. FHSU never trailed and had a significant lead at the half by a score of 41-7. With many key returners from a season ago, the Tigers will plan for the same result next Thursday, with their home opener against Central Missouri.

The women’s soccer team also began the season in blowout fashion. Fort Hays defeated SMSU 6-0, led by midfielder Eden Stoddard’s two goals. The win started a 6-game road trip for the Lady Tigers. They will make their first appearance in front of a home crowd, September 22 against Washburn.
