Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – Preview

Not so long ago, right in our galaxy…

Star Wars was born after George Lucas finally was able to get 20th Century Fox to sign on to the idea. After that, history was made. Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope is the highest grossing movie of all time. Since then the movie empire (pun intended) has grown into a multi-billion dollar corporation.

Now in 2016, 4 years after Disney purchased Lucasfilm, and after the huge success of Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (the first of three) comes in. The movie takes place between Episode III (ya know, that one where Anakin kills children and his wife) and Episode IV (the one where is son is the underdog hero).

Rogue One is about a group of unlikely heroes that band together to steal plans to the Death Star (and for those who didn’t know, it is indeed a space station and not a moon) which is pretty typical of the Star Wars themes throughout the 40 years of storytelling.

First (in order of episode), the story of the slave Anakin from Tatooine who is able to become a Jedi and all around badass. Then the story of Luke, also from Tatooine who comes out of his shell to turn is now evil father back to the light before he died. And then finally with the new trilogy, Rey the orphan from Jakku.

For me, it will be interesting to see is Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) or any of the other characters is from a desert planet keeping up with tradition. I am also excited to see the diversity in this cast. And let’s be real, who wouldn’t get excited for Donnie Yen? (he’s the IP Man for crying out loud)

But furthermore, I’m excited to see what Director Gareth Edwards does with this film. For a lot of die-hard Star Wars fans (including myself), the arrival for Episode VII was long anticipated and it caused much distress to know if JJ Abrams would destroy the Star Wars franchise. This is the first canon live-action movie outside the episodic Saga.

From what I can tell, this is going to be a great movie. But to hear more about my thoughts  about the movie, Check out my Review after the Premiere!
