Volleyball Gears Up for Weekend Conference Road Swing Against In-State Foes

Fort Hays State Volleyball hits the road this weekend for a pair of MIAA matches against in-state foes Emporia State and Washburn. FHSU plays at Emporia State on Friday at 6 pm, then heads to Topeka for a meeting with No. 7 ranked Washburn on Saturday at 6 pm.

Fort Hays State is coming off a 3-1 loss to No. 14 ranked Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday evening in Hays. After taking the first set in thrilling fashion, the Tigers struggled the rest of the night to drop to 0-1 in conference play. Both the Tigers and Hornets will be looking for their first conference win on Friday evening after ESU fell to Washburn in its conference opener Tuesday. ESU enters the match at 5-5 overall, while FHSU is 8-5 overall. Washburn enters the weekend at 12-0 overall and faces Nebraska-Kearney on Friday before taking on the Tigers. FHSU is looking to snap a five-match losing streak to Emporia State and a 19-match losing streak to Washburn.

Crystal Whitten continues to lead FHSU in kills with 164, followed closely by Mallory Flagor with 158. Both are averaging better than three kills per set. Rebekah Spainhour is the team leader in hitting percentage (.356), Hannah Wagy leads in assists per set (10.02), and Kailey Klibbe leads in digs per set (3.59).
