Music Review: Ghost

By:  Terry Vickroy (DJ TV)

Ghost is a heavy metal band from Sweden known for their old school feel and occult themes. After two fairly well regarded and successful albums, I must say I have been highly anticipating the release of Meliora and right from the get go I am not disappointed.

They have differently cranked things up a notch since their last LP. It’s heavier and harder hitting while still maintaining those catchy choruses. Just like their last previous work, these songs will get stuck in your head for days on end.

Unlike many bands, Ghost always likes to bring something different to each of their albums. This album is a lot more progressive and has some very thick instrumentation. You’ll hear organ, strings, bells, and full choirs populated throughout Meliora. This can get gimmicky with some bands but Ghost pulls it off perfectly. It really adds a certain flavor to each track fits in very nicely.

This album hits all the right beats and is a blast to listen to. If you haven’t checked out any of Ghost’s previous albums this is the perfect jumping on point. It’s a great release and I’m very excited to see what they will do in the future.

5/5
