Men’s Basketball Announces Three Early Signings for 2015-16

Fort Hays State men’s basketball coach Mark Johnson announced three high school signings from Kansas that will join the team in 2015-16. Signing with Fort Hays State are Brady Werth from Hays, Trey O’Neil from Scott City, and Aaron Nicholson from Wichita. All three are currently playing their final year of basketball at their respective high schools.

Werth is a 6-foot, 7-inch post player at Hays High School. He earned KBCA Class 5A All-State First Team honors in 2013-14 and was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He was named to the All-State Tournament team for his efforts at the state tournament site. Werth averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for Hays last year. Werth was also recognized among the Top 15 players in the state chosen by VarsityKansas.com, earning Third Team honors.

O’Neil is a 6-foot, 2-inch guard at Scott Community High School. He earned KBCA Class 4A All-State First Team honors in 2013-14, averaging 21.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.3 points per game. He helped his team to a state runner-up finish in Class 4A last year, and state championships in Class 3A as a freshman and sophomore in 2012 and 2013. O’Neil, like Werth, was named to the Top 15 players in the state chosen by VarsityKansas.com, earning Second Team honors.

Nicholson is a 5-foot, 9-inch guard at Derby High School. The younger brother of current Tiger Craig Nicholson, he averaged 11 points and four assists per game as a junior as he transferred from Wichita Northwest High School to Derby High School during the 2013-14 year.

“We are very excited to have these three join the Tiger Basketball program next year,” said head coach Mark Johnson. “We look for all three to make a big impact on the program, but we are also very pleased that they all come from families of high character and they excel on both the court and in the classroom.”
