Monday was a day to remember for a pair of baseball teams in northwest Kansas.

The Russell/Victoria baseball team won in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A state tournament in Salina. The Broncos beat Colby 3-0 at Dean Evans Stadium.

That victory puts the team in the 3A semifinals against Silver Lake, which was a 1-0 winner against top-seeded Council Grove. Girard, coached by former Fort Hays State University baseball coach Bob Fornelli, beat Jefferson West 6-1. Burlington beat Frontenac 5-3 in the other quarterfinal.

Russell/Victoria’s game will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kansas State.

In the opening round of the Class 2-1A state championships, top-seeded TMP had no problem with Humboldt — reaching the semifinals with a 10-0 win in Salina.

The Monarchs will play Rossville, which won 10-0 against Marmaton Valley. St. Mary’s-Colgan beat second-seeded Spearville 17-0, and Frankfort beat Southern Lyon County 13-7 in the bottom half of the bracket.

TMP will play No.4 seed Rossville at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kansas State.
