Homecoming Candidate Profile: Brad DeMers

BY BAILEY BRAWNER

Homecoming week is here and the candidates are ready for your votes. Homecoming is a fun time here at the fort, especially with all of our awesome candidates representing our school each year!

Candidate Brad DeMers is excited about being a candidate for this year’s homecoming. He is the president of the Student Government Association. When asked why he chose to represent this organization this is what he had to say.

“Student Government Association means so much to me,” DeMers said. “With being president of the organization, I get to wake up every day and represent close to 16,000 students. It is so rewarding to have a voice and make a difference in students’ lives at such a young age. I love every second of it and it truly has been an honor to be apart of the organization.”

He was next asked why he chose Fort Hays and his favorite part about homecoming.

“I chose FHSU because I wanted to be different. In my hometown, nobody has ever been to FHSU. I wanted to have a different experience than the people I knew,” DeMers said. “I came to FHSU knowing three people- my aunt, my uncle, and one other person. There has been plenty of ups and downs just like most things in life but I love the journey that I am on.

“My favorite part of homecoming is that it is a time for everyone to come together and celebrate FHSU. Coming from another state, I do not get to see my family much. So this event

is extra special to me because they are coming down which is great.”

Another element to what makes Hays a special place are the variety of places to eat — and of course every person has their favorite.

“[My] Favorite place to eat at is Gellas,” DeMers said. “I love everything there as long as you get ranch on it like a typical midwesterner.”

Do not forget to vote this week for  who you want to win FHSU’s homecoming queen and king!
Voting for the title of King and Queen will take place from 9:00 AM October 9th to noon October 11th on TigerLink or in Memorial Union from 11am to 1 PM on October 9th and 10th.
