EMPORIA, Kan. – Fort Hays State Women’s Track and Field kicked off the 2017 outdoor season on Friday (Mar. 17) at the ESU Spring Invitational, hosted by Emporia State. For the day, FHSU had two champions and three NCAA provisional marks set.
Alexcia Deutcher made a strong collegiate debut by winning the javelin with a toss of 145 feet, 1 inch. It easily passed the provisional qualifying mark. Shea Bonine won the 5,000 meters in 17:45.00 and also ran well in the 1,500 meters finishing second in 4:50.91.
After a very solid indoor season, Kelly Wycoff kicked off the indoor season with new personal best times in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. In the 100 she ran 11.98 seconds, finishing fourth, and in the 200 she ran 24.47 seconds, finishing third.
The Tigers will get some time off now, before they jump back in action on April 1, when they host the Alex Francis Classic, the first track and field event to be held at the brand new FHSU Track and Field Facility.
