Fort Hays State Softball dropped a pair of MIAA games at Pittsburg State on Friday (Mar. 11) and now sits at 8-11 overall and 2-4 in the MIAA. The Gorillas moved to 15-6 overall and remained undefeated in conference play at 4-0.

Game 1: Pittsburg State 1, Fort Hays State 0

The Tigers struggled offensively in game one as Pittsburg State pitcher Emmie Robertson threw her first no-hitter of the season. The Tigers managed only two baserunners in the game as Tori Beltz walked in the fourth and Samantha Villarreal reached on an error later in the inning.

Paxton Duran threw an outstanding game in her own right for the Tigers as her only mistake was a solo home run. Duran went all six innings for the Tigers allowing just one run on three hits, with seven strikeouts, and just two walks.

Game 2: Pittsburg State 7, Fort Hays State 1

In game two the Tiger bats sprung to life, but the inability to push runs across the plate resulted in a 7-1 loss. The Tigers recorded seven hits as a team, with Villarreal and Erin Elmore picking up two each. Fort Hays State’s lone run of the day came in the fifth inning when Claudia Vazquez singled in Ashley Beavers from second, making it 2-1 at the time.

Carrie Clark took the loss in the circle allowing seven runs (six earned), in 5.1 innings on 11 hits, with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Tigers look to rebound today with another MIAA doubleheader at Missouri Southern. The first pitch is set for 1 pm in Joplin.
