Tigers Fall By Run Rule in Series Opener with Bearcats

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State baseball dropped to 9-9 overall and 3-4 in the MIAA on Friday (Mar. 11) when they suffered a 14-4 run-rule loss to Southwest Baptist. The Bearcats moved to 7-9 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA.

The Tigers led 1-0 after one innings, but that was their only lead of the day as SBU took the lead in the third and never looked back.

The Tiger offense struggled most of the day as they only managed six hits, four of which came in the final two innings. Joe Mapes went 2-for-4 on the day with three RBI and Austin Unrein, Nick Hammeke, andTrevor Hughes each had a single.

Taking the loss on the bump was D.J. Carr who now sports a record of 1-2 on the season. Carr lasted four innings and gave up 10 runs, with just two being earned. Will Amen and Tyler Renninson each allowed two runs in an inning of relief work, while Andrew Astalos was able to toss a scoreless seventh.

The Tigers look to bounce back in game two of the series, Saturday (Mar. 12) in Hays. The first pitch is set for 1 pm.
