EDMOND, Okla. – Fort Hays State had a four-game win streak snapped on Saturday (Feb. 27) in its regular season finale at Central Oklahoma. The Tigers had a rough day shooting the ball, falling by a score of 67-54. FHSU finished the regular season 19-9 overall and 13-9 in the MIAA, taking fourth place alone in the MIAA standings.
The Tigers produced their second-worst shooting percentage of the season at 34.6 percent overall. FHSU scored only six points in the first 11 minutes of the game and trailed 31-24 at halftime. The Tigers hit a 3-pointer to open the second half to cut the lead to four, but never got any closer. UCO pulled away, leading by as many as 21 in the second half before FHSU cut it back to 13 late.
Rob Davis led the Tiger scoring effort with 15 points while Jake Stoppel added 12. Drew Kite pulled down a team-high eight rebounds while Craig Nicholson dished out a team-high three assists.
Jacob Strassle led UCO in scoring with 14 points while Josh Holiday added 12, Cornell Neal had 11, and Trai Jordan had 10. Jordan had a double-double, pulling down 14 rebounds.
The Tigers will be the No. 4 seed in the MIAA Tournament and face the winner of No. 5 seed Central Oklahoma vs. No. 12 Central Missouri on Friday (March 4) in the quarterfinals. Game time will be 8:15 pm on Friday at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
