The Fort Hays State women’s basketball squad prepares for another tough match-up on Saturday (Jan. 16) when they host Central Oklahoma at 2 pm inside Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. The No. 3 ranked Tigers enter at 15-1 overall and 9-1 in the MIAA, while the Bronchos are 12-4 overall and 6-4 in the MIAA.
The Tigers ran their win streak to five games on Thursday with a 68-47 win over Northeastern State. The Tigers remain a game back of Missouri Western in the MIAA standings, but the undefeated and No. 10 ranked Griffons play at No. 9 ranked Emporia State on Saturday. Emporia State lurks just one game back of the Tigers in the standings at 8-2.
Central Oklahoma enters Saturday on a two-game win streak, which includes a home win over Washburn and a road win at Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday night. The Bronchos are tied for fourth in the MIAA standings with Washburn and Pittsburg State.
Paige Lunsford had a big game for the Tigers on Thursday, recording her first career double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. The 13 rebounds were a career high. Chelsea Mason continues to lead FHSU in scoring at 14.3 points per game. Jill Faxon put up a team-high 17 points on Thursday night and averages 12.7 per game. Beth Bohuslavsky also averages double figures in scoring at 11.1 points per game. Faxon and Lunsford are currently tied for the team lead in rebounding at 5.3 per game each while Mason adds 5.2 per game.
McKenzie Solberg leads the UCO attack at 16.2 points per game. Seven UCO players average at least six points per game, but Solberg is the only one averaging double figures.
