Fort Hays State looks to stay hot as it heads on the road for a pair of tough road contests in Missouri this week. With a six-game win streak, the Tigers take on Lindenwood Thursday (Jan. 7) in a battle between second place teams in the conference. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm.
Fort Hays State enters Thursday at 11-2 overall and 5-2 in the MIAA. Lindenwood is also 5-2 in the conference but holds an overall record of 9-4. Both teams are in a four-way tie for second place in the MIAA with Washburn and Lincoln. FHSU will face Lincoln on Saturday.
Lindenwood split a pair of road games in Kansas on Saturday and Monday. The Lions lost at Washburn but then bounced back with a win at Emporia State. Cory Arentsen of Lindenwood is one of the top scorers in the MIAA at 22.5 points per game.
The Tigers have four players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Dom Samac at 17.5 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounding at 7.4 per game. Samac recorded his first double-double of the season in the 84-83 overtime win against Missouri Southern on Monday with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Rob Davis is coming off his fourth game of 20 or more points after dropping exactly 20 against Missouri Southern. He is averaging 16.0 points per game for the season. Jake Stoppel has been solid offensively of late, scoring in double figures in each of the last six games, which includes two games of 20 or more points. He recorded his third double-double of the season on Monday with 10 points and 11 rebounds against Missouri Southern. Craig Nicholson upped his scoring average to 10.5 points per game with 17 points on Monday. Nicholson leads the team in assists at 5.3 per game.
