Ichabods knock off Tigers in conference dual

Fort Hays State University tennis fell by a score of 7-2 to Washburn in conference play on Friday, in Hays, at the FHSU Tennis Courts. The loss snapped a two-match win streak for the Tigers in conference play. FHSU is now 9-8 overall and 2-6 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

The Tigers fell down 2-1 after doubles play and then won only one singles match. All singles matches were decided in straight sets.

The No. 3 team of Michelle Miller and Jessica Johnson scored the win for FHSU in doubles play, knocking off the team of Banks and Holle by a score of 8-5. The No. 1 team of Camille Caron-Bedard and Reinette Strydom lost 8-3 to Blackim and Buchman and the No. 2 team of Brittney Ricci and Katie Hipp lost 8-2 to Plum and Shepler.

Miller was the only Tiger to claim a win in singles play, winning 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 position over Kirsten Holle. At No. 1, Caron-Bedard lost to Casyn Buchman, the No. 17 ranked individual in the region, 6-0, 6-4. Ricci lost 6-0, 6-2 to Jodie Blackim at No. 2. At No. 4, Strydom lost 6-1, 6-0 to Maria MoralCarretero. Hipp fell 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 position to Gwen Shepler, while at No. 6 Johnson lost to Ashlynn Sutton 6-3, 6-0.

FHSU plays two non-conference matches next week before its next conference dual. FHSU heads to Kansas Wesleyan in Salina on Tuesday for an evening match at 5:30 p.m. Later in the week, FHSU will make a stop at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., on Friday before taking on Lindenwood in conference play in St. Charles, Mo., on Saturday.
