Fort Hays State fell by a score of 10-0 to Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday in the finale of a four-game set in Kearney, Neb. The Tigers dropped to 3-7 overall on the season and 3-5 in the MIAA with the loss.
The Tigers scratched out only three hits in the eight-inning contest (shortened by run-rule) against UNK starter Chris Sievers. He threw a complete game with just one walk and 11 strikeouts.
FHSU starting pitcher Brad Spires did not record an out, allowing three earned runs. Gabe Cook relieved for 6.0 innings and allowed just one run, but not earned. FHSU relievers Chase Newman and Giles Fox combined to surrender five runs in the eighth, which led to the run-rule win for UNK. Spires took the loss, now 0-3 on the season.
The Tigers have a single game against Colorado Mines in Hays scheduled for Tuesdayat 3 p.m.
