Keehn covered the 3,000-meter course in a time of 8:26.67. He topped a field of 28 runners, but his closest competition was teammate Jonny Bernasky, who took second in the event in 8:33.37. By winning two events on the weekend, Keehn generated 20 points for his team. Bernasky also had a great weekend racking up points, finishing second in the 3,000 and third in the 5,000 to produce 14 team points. With their performances, both Keehn and Bernasky earned All-MIAA honors in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters by finishing in the top three.
The distance duo combined to generate 34 of the team’s 56.5 points in the meet. FHSU finished sixth as a team. Pittsburg State won the men’s team title with 120 points, followed by Central Missouri with 108 and Nebraska-Kearney with 105.
Also earning All-MIAA status for the Tigers on Sunday was Michael Kinuthia in the 800-meter run. He finished second in the finals with a time of 1:54.69, adding eight points to the team score. His effort on Saturday in the prelims upped his provisional qualifying time to 1:52.07 with a conversion made from the track size.
Both Rodrigo Alves and Nate Simpson turned in a sixth-place finishes for the Tigers in short distance events. Alves ran a time of 6.99 seconds in the finals of the 60 meters and Simpson tied his career-best with a time of 8.27 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. Simpson’s time is a provisional qualifying mark.
Jake Morrow gave the Tigers a seventh-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 15’3.5″.
FHSU has several men that have posted provisional marks this season and several await to see if they make the cut for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, coming in two weeks in Birmingham, Ala.
