Lehman named CoSIDA/Capital One First Team Academic All-American

Fort Hays State University senior center Kate Lehman was named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America First Team on Wednesday. This is the first career Academic All-American honor for Lehman.

Lehman is an Elementary Education major with a grade point average of 3.83, splitting time this season between academics, FHSU basketball and student teaching in the Hays community.

From Newton, she has been a key contributor to the Tigers’ historic season, leading the team with 20.2 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game. Lehman is the first ever FHSU player to record over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career, and is on pace to be one of two players in NCAA Division II history to finish with over 500 blocks. If she reaches that defensive threshold, she will also be the only player in NCAA Division II history to record 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 blocks in a career.

Lehman is a three-time All-MIAA selection, a two-time MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and All-Defensive team honoree and earned All-America Honorable Mention honors last season from Division II Bulletin and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

Lehman’s selection gives Fort Hays State 44 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections all-time, the first dating back to 1975. She is the seventh women’s basketball player to earn the award at FHSU, and is the second Academic All-America this season for the Tigers, as Jesse Trent (Football) was honored earlier in the year.
