Women’s Soccer seventh in first NCAA Central Region rankings

FHSU Sports Information

Fort Hays State Women’s Soccer is ranked seventh in the first set of NCAA regional rankings, released earlier this week on Wednesday. The top six teams in the region will advance to the NCAA Regionals, Nov. 14-16.

The Central Region is made up of teams from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and the Great American Conference (GAC). Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the MIAA and NSIC tournaments, with the remaining four spots awarded on an at-large basis.

The Tigers are one of four MIAA teams listed in the Top 8, joining conference opponents Central Missouri (No. 2), Southwest Baptist (No. 5) and Central Oklahoma (No. 6). FHSU continues a pivotal stretch of games to close out the season, with three away matches before the squad returns to FHSU Soccer Stadium on Nov. 2 for Senior Day.

FHSU Women’s Soccer has made one NCAA Tournament appearance in school history (after winning the 2012 MIAA Tournament Championship), and will be looking to return for the second time in its brief program history. FHSU is 8-4-2 so far this season, including a 6-2-2 record in MIAA competition. The Tigers have strung together four consecutive shutouts to go with nine total shutouts on the year, and have won five of their last seven matches.

This weekend’s action includes a road contest with Washburn on Friday (Oct. 24), and a Sunday (Oct. 26) matchup versus Emporia State.
