Area students offered to attend the 6th annual FHSU Majors and Graduate Programs fair

The sixth annual Majors and Graduate Programs Fair will be held from from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 in the Memorial Union Ballroom.

“The purpose for this fair is for students to learn what FHSU has to offer for majors, minors, certificates and research opportunities,” said Kendahl Garrett, undergraduate assistant for the Academic Advising Office. “It also offers study abroad programs, internships and career options”.

This event is an opportunity for students to access all of the academic departments in one location. Each academic program will have a table set up with a faculty or staff member to answer any questions or provide additional information.

“We are really focusing on high school juniors, seniors and especially FHSU freshman to attend the event,” Garrett said.

The following surrounding high schools were invited to attend the event: Ellis, TMN, Hays, Victoria, Russell, Lacrosse, Larned and Holcomb. Garden City Community College was also invited to attend.

The fair offers something for both exploratory and declared major students.

Exploratory students are offered the chance to be exposed to a variety of options and learn about specific requirements for each major’s curriculum.

Students who declared a major will be able to learn more about minors, certificates, research opportunities and graduate school.

Those attending will have the chance to meet faculty and build relationships that can turn into job references. They will also be able to meet students with the same interests.

“We encourage any FHSU student attending to log on to their TigerTracks and take the MyMajors.com assessment,” Garrett said. “It is located under the Online Services tab and free to all students. The assessment will list 10 majors that fit you best.”

Garrett also suggests coming with an open mind.

The Majors and Graduate Programs Fair will have door prizes available that students are encouraged to sign up for.

Those sponsoring this event are the Academic Advising and Career Exploration Center, Career Services and the Office of the Provost.
