Local concerts sure to please

This weekend, local bars will host live music performances featuring music from country to rock.

Thursday, Oct. 2:
Gella’s Diner will host Ashley Raines & the New West Revue. Raines is an Americana/blues/roots country song-writer, lyricist, composer and multi-instrumentalist. At the age of 14 he managed to hitchhike away from his home in Kansas. He then hopped boxcars and independently learned to play several instruments. Since 2000 he has released thirteen studio recordings. The performance starts at 8:30 p. m. and is open to all ages.

Singers will host The Yawpers a Boulder, Colo. quartet with a sound blend of indie-country and rock ‘n’ roll. The band features a stripped down, brazen rock and roll feel accompanied by overdriven acoustic guitars and a trap kit. Inspired by Whitman’s promise to “sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world,” the Yawpers have created a sound that is equal parts frenetic, earnest, and menacing, all while bringing together disparate pieces of the American musical lexicon. Doors open at 7 p. m. The show starts at 9 p. m. Attendees must be 18 or older to enter.

Friday, Oct. 3:
Singers will host a Paramount 80s Rock Reunion. Paramount 80s is the house band for The Paramount Bar in Salina, Ks. With the constant growth of their fanbase, Paramount 80s have traveled surrounding cities and states. The band specializes in sounds like: Journey, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Van Halen, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Guns N’ Roses.  Doors open at 7 p. m. and the show starts at 9 p. m. Attendees must be 21 or older to enter.

Saturday, Oct. 4:
Singers will host a 25th anniversary reunion for Submytion. Submytion, a band that was born in Hays, is dedicated to rock music fans from the 80’s to the present. The band began in the mid 1980’s and has opened up for acts such as Joan Jeet, B.T.O., The Rainmakers, Dream Theatre, and others. Doors open at 7 p. m. and show starts at 9 p. m.
