The FHSU E-Sports Club completed a 24-hour charity stream this weekend. The annual charity stream raises money for the Ronald McDonald House, a sponsor and collaborator of the E-Sports Club.
The livestream consisted of members playing a variety of games with incentives and goals for viewers to try and reach. The goals could be considered punishments or fun events, such as getting a plate of whipped cream to the face or drinking “disgusting sodas.”
This event is one of the highlights for the E-Sports club and is a time when members can come together, have fun, and raise money for a good cause while laughing at other people as they have to get their faces painted like a clown because an incentive goal was reached. The club spends between eight and 12 hours planning the stream, making incentives, scheduling games, and making sure the members who wanted to participate had something to do.
“[One of the highlights of the stream is] when a game has people crowding around the monitor,” Club President Tatum Sanders said. “It’s difficult to find a game that everyone can enjoy, but when we have got something that we want to watch, then we know that viewers will enjoy it too.”
Every semester the club consistently raises over $400 for charity and sometimes surpasses $1000.
With a 24-hour event, club members need to rest in between their segments to avoid fatigue. Some students decide to go back to their homes, while others choose to try and make as comfortable a resting spot as they can in the lab, using their coats and chairs. Some members even tried to use three rolling chairs as a bed.
The E-Sports Club does a 24-hour stream every semester, so there will be more opportunities to watch, donate, or participate in the event in the future.
