WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team dropped their first match since September 22 after a 3-0 final against No. 17 Central Missouri on Sunday (Oct. 22). The loss drops FHSU to 11-2-3 on the season, 7-1-1 in conference play, while UCM improves to 12-3-1, 7-1-1 in MIAA play.

Both teams struggled to find rhythm in the first period thanks to both stifling defenses. Nine total shots were recorded in the first period with six belonging to Central Missouri and three for Fort Hays State. Both goalkeepers notched three saves in the first 45 minutes of play, sending both sides to the locker room scoreless at the break.

It did not take long for the Jennies to strike in the second period, scoring their first goal of the match in the 47′. The Tigers would stay aggressive on both sides of the pitch, firing seven shots in the second period, three on goal, but UCM would go on to capitalize on two more scores. Allison Worley had the most offensive opportunities for the Tigers with five shot attempts, two that were on target. The Jennies scored again in both the 55′ and 84′ of the match. Central Missouri had three different goal scorers for all their points.

The loss for Fort Hays State is just their first conference loss this season, but it also makes it 12-straight matches without a win against UCM. The two programs still are 6right there in the hunt for the MIAA regular season title behind Washburn, a team who the Tigers will host in Hays on Friday (Oct. 27) at 6 p.m. Fort Hays State will also celebrate Senior Night against the Ichabods.

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team tallied another win on the season on Friday (Oct. 20) against Missouri Southern State. The Tigers played lockdown defense, notching their fourth straight shutout victory by a score of 1-0. FHSU moves to 11-1-3 on the season, 7-0-1 in conference play, while MSSU falls to 0-13-2, 0-7-1 in MIAA action.

Keeper Isabel Robben was up to the test in the first period of Friday’s match, securing three big saves to keep MSSU off the board early. The Lions outshot the Tigers 5-2 up until the halftime break. The Lions also earned five corner kicks but came up empty handed. The match was scoreless after the first period.

The Tigers came out on a mission in the second period, flipping the script and outshooting the Lions 5-1 in the second period. The Lions lone shot was not an on goal try. The Tigers broke through in the 57′ minute with a goal scored by Hannah Mares to take the lead. Mares’ shot was assisted by Sullivan Kelly, setting her up perfectly for the go-ahead score. That’s all that Fort Hays would need the rest of the way to secure another road victory.
