CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Fort Hays State baseball team struggled to get things going in Saturday’s series opener against Rogers State, falling to the Hillcats 11-0 (March 12).
The Hillcats scored in four different innings, including two in the first, three in the second, four in the fourth and four in the sixth. Fort Hays State managed one hit off RSU starter Jordan Ewig, who tallied 15 strikeouts across 7.0 shutout innings. Ed Scott picked up the lone hit, with Kade Wallace and Mikey Felton both reaching base via a walk.
Sammy Sanchez (2-2) allowed seven runs on nine hits over 5.0 innings of work. Espen Donaldson tossed the final inning, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits.
The Tigers and Hillcats will wrap up the weather-shortened series with a doubleheader on Sunday (March 13) beginning at 1 p.m
