Tennis sweeps KWU in spring opener

SALINA, Kan. – Fort Hays State defeated Kansas Wesleyan in the first match of the spring portion of its 2019-20 schedule. The Tigers won all nine matches contested on the day, taking the one team point in doubles play before adding six in singles action. FHSU moved to 5-2 overall with the 7-0 win.

In doubles action, the Tigers surrendered just five total points. The No. 1 team of Lauren Lindell/Ellea Ediger won 6-1, while the No. 2 team of Macy Moyers/Syndey McAdoo and No. 3 team of Grace Holgerson/Kimberly Stone each won their contests 6-2.

The Tigers won all singles matches in straight sets. Holgerson held her opponent to the fewest points at the No. 6 position, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Jessica Smith. Like Holgerson, Ediger held steady in her set-score wins, defeating Mackenzie Archer 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Lindell (No. 1), Moyers (No. 2), and McAdoo (No. 4) all won by wider margins in the second set, while Stone (No. 5) was the only Tiger to allow more points to the opposition in the second set.

The Tigers look to continue at four-match win streak, dating back to the fall portion of the season, at Hastings College (Neb.) on Saturday (Mar. 7). The match begins at 12 pm.
