HHS girls struggle to find rhythm against Colby

By JAYCEE DALE

The Hays High School girls’ basketball team, coming off of a two-game losing streak, was set to face the Colby on Tuesday night in hopes of ending the semester on a winning note.

But the Eagles were able to trip up the Indians, 47-31.

The Indians started out slow on defense, allowing Colby to hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter to build a 17-6 margin entering the second quarter.

The Indians worked on both sides of the ball to keep it close, with Colby leading 27-16 at halftime.

Colby took control in the third quarter as the Indians’ offense sputtered. Hays High scored only nine points in the frame as the Eagles led 42-25 entering the final period.

Both teams struggled to score in the fourth quarter, but Colby’s advantage from the first three quarters was too much for HHS to overcome.

The Indians are now 1-3 on the season and are set to play at Pratt on Jan. 7 .

Aleyia Ruder, playing her first game of the season, led the Indians with 13 points. Brooke Denning followed with 12 points.
