FHSU CSD NSSLHA chapter earns Gold Chapter Honors

By UNIVERSITY RELATIONS

The National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association chapter in Fort Hays State University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders earned Gold Chapter Honors, the only Kansas university to achieve this award.

The chapter earned this recognition by maintaining at least 30 percent of its membership within the chapter; participating in two or more community outreach activities; participating in two or more legislative advocacy activities; and fundraising $200 or more.

Some notable activities included sponsoring the Ellis County Spelling Bee, sponsoring the annual Run/Walk to Help Children Talk, organizing a book drive and donating $500 to the Hays Accessible Recreation Complex.

Established in 1972, NSSLHA is the only national student organization for pre-professionals studying communication sciences and disorders recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. NSSLHA supports more than 13,400 members and more than 300 chapters at colleges and universities nationwide.
