On a chilly Sunday evening, a large crowd gathered in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for the 39th annual FHSU Choir Christmas Concert. The concert took place at a new venue this year, as previous concerts were at St. Fidelis in Victoria.
The concert featured a diverse range of Christmas music, from hymns sung by the entire assembly accompanied by the pipe organ in St. Joseph’s, to smaller groups such as the Brass Choir, the Smoky Hill Chorale, the Fort Hays Singers, and the Concert Choir, as well as solo pieces.
There was a mix of many different cultures expressed during the concert with the different hymns that were played, some examples were Silent Night performed in English and German, a Polish carol, a Czech Carol, and even a Spanish Carol. Plus some performances on some songs that you wouldn’t typically hear around Christmas time.
Then, to end the night, all three choirs joined together in one accord and performed a version of “What Child Is This”.
“It’s beautiful here and it has great sound,” FHSU Chorale Director Terry Crull said.
FHSU Bands Director Peter Lillpopp agreed that the acoustics played a big part in making the concert sound great.
