The Hays City Commission approved several motions regarding a new development during Tuesday’s meeting.
Director of Public Works Jesse Rohr explained that the section of land being developed was platted as DK Ranch in 2013 and also includes part of the Country Club Estates Sixth Addition that was platted even earlier.
“Neither one ever developed,” Rohr said.
The first step in the process for this development is the vacating of the current plats. The resolution was approved unanimously.

The commission then reviewed the plans for the final plat for the Smoky Hill Plains Addition. The plat was approved unanimously.

The next step is the deannexation (or resolution to vacate annexation) of the DK Ranch plat and the annexation of the new Smoky Hill Plains plat. The new plat includes the Country Club Estates Sixth Addition, which was never annexed in the first place.
City Staff met with homeowners in the area prior to this vote.
“It was a good meeting,” Rohr said. “It was really productive and everyone walked away satisfied.”
The deannexation and annexation was approved unanimously.
“That’s the kind of collaboration we need,” Vice Mayor Mason Ruder said.
During the meeting, the commission also approved authorization for the City Manager to enter into a contract with Smoky Hill, LLC for $4,068,341.95 for the reconstruction and extension of water and sewer services near 27th and Commerce Parkway
The next City Commission meeting will be at 4 p.m. on December 11 at City Hall.
