The Kansas Highway Patrol transported the body of slain Phillips County Deputy Brandon Gaede in a fallen officer escort that traveled on Interstate 70 from Wichita and drove through Hays on Tuesday before going north to Phillipsburg. Gaede passed away from fatal injuries after responding to a report of illegal fireworks being detonated on Friday in Phillipsburg after attempting to arrest the suspect who shot and killed him. He was pronounced dead at 10:24 p.m. at a local hospital. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the sequence of events that led to the shooting.
Gaede is survived by his wife Karlye and their three children.
Funeral services for Gaede will be at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday at the Huck Boyd Community Center in Phillipsburg. Donations for the Gaede family can be made at the Farmer’s State Bank through its Facebook page.
