On Saturday, the Hays Public Library hosted its popular Puzzle Competition, bringing together puzzle enthusiasts of all ages for an afternoon of teamwork and friendly competition. The event took place from 1 to 3:00 p.m. and featured 10 teams of five participants each, all racing against the clock to complete as much of a jigsaw puzzle as possible within the two-hour time frame.

“The Puzzle Competition has become a popular activity at the Hays Public Library,” said Callie Kolacny, HPL marketing coordinator. “Held at least twice a year, the event provides a fun experience for the whole family and is especially geared toward those who enjoy a bit of friendly rivalry. Light refreshments are also available to keep participants fueled and focused.”

The competition welcomes people of all ages, and past events have seen participation from families, friends, and coworkers alike. This year’s roster filled up quickly following registration, demonstrating the growing popularity of the event in the Hays community.

At the end of the competition, the top three teams were awarded prizes based on how much of the puzzle they completed during the allotted time.

“When looking for an activity that appeals to a broad range of ages and abilities, puzzles fit that description perfectly,” Kolacny said. “They’re an entertaining pastime that can be enjoyed in any weather, and based on the consistent turnout, it’s clear this event continues to be a hit with the community.”
