The Hays Larks visited Hays Public Library on Tuesday for their annual ‘Meet the Larks’ event to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans. Their interaction with supporters comes after winning the 2024 NBC World Series Championship, a title they will defend this summer.
While pitcher Brooks Jones is new to the team, he knows the value in connecting with hometown fans.
“It’s an awesome thing we all get to do and be a part of,” he said. “We’re all thankful that we’re here at Hays, and we’re excited to be a part of the community.”
The rewarding moment he has with the community is when he gives younger fans a special occasion to remember by singing their baseball gear.
“That’s amazing,” Jones said. “You see everyone smile and greet you, and they act like you’re one of their own. It’s an awesome feeling, and getting to know that we mean something to all these kids is amazing.”
Jones is optimistic about the Larks’ upcoming season, which begins with a road game against the Dodge City A’s this evening.
“We’re all excited,” he said. “We have a good group of guys, and after what we did last year, I feel like we can make a big impact again and have a great year.”
The Larks will also play the A’s in their home opener at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Larks Park. Their full schedule can be found online.
