Thursday afternoon was a day full of opportunity, thanks to the Voter Registration Booth hosted by Us 4 U and Loud Light. The booth was dedicated to increasing youth civic participation in Kansas.
“We’re excited to announce that we’re actively working to ensure everyone has the opportunity to make their voice heard in the upcoming elections. Your participation is crucial, and we need your help,” – Voter Registration Booth Corq Description.
Loud Light intern Sarah Braun was joined by Sam Allen of Us 4 U and Young Democrats of America to help students, register to vote, update their voter record, check their voter status, request a vote-by-mail ballot, find their election information, and get their local candidate information.
“Students will be here for four to six years, and might as well get involved in the community they live in,” Allen said.
Allen expressed how passionately he believed that students who show interest in voting, could potentially inspire others to get involved also. Both Allen and Braun agreed that their main purpose was to encourage passing students to establish their voting standing within their community, providing resources, materials, and advice on how to do so.
By the end of the session, many students had utilized the Voting Registration Booth and its services. Students who were not able to attend will have another opportunity to learn more about voting when Us For U sets up their next booth outside the Memorial Union on at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Loud Light will also have a booth at noon on Tuesday.
