KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State women’s basketball sophomore Katie Wagner earned her second MIAA Athlete of the Week honor of the season after averaging a double-double over the weekend, announced Monday (Jan. 30) by the league office. The Maize, Kan. native recorded a pair of stellar performances, putting up an average of19.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game against Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State.
Wagner opened the week with her second-consecutive 20-point double-double, racking up 20 points and a career-high 17 rebounds against Missouri Western before leading the team in scoring for the fourth-straight game with 19 points alongside three steals against the Bearcats
The 5-11 guard knocked down 41.9 percent from the floor (13-of-31), 66.7 percent from behind the arc (2-of-3) and 73.3 percent from the free-throw line (11-of-15) across the two contests.
Wagner also earned the honor during week four of the season when she averaged 20.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in the first week of league action. This is the third weekly league honor in Wagner’s career.
Next up for Wagner and the Tigers is a trip to Wichita, Kan. to take on Newman on Thursday (Feb. 2) beginning at 5:30 p.m.
