Women’s soccer set for home doubleheader

FHSU’s women’s soccer team started the season on the road in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to take on a pair of regional schools in the non-conference. The Tigers started the season against the University of Sioux Falls and knocked off the Cougars 2-0.

The Tigers took on Augustana in game two of their road trip. The Augies were freshly rested for the match against the Tigers, as that was their first game of the season. FHSU started from behind in the game as they gave up a goal in the 4th minute of the match, but in the 28th minute, the Tigers scored to tie the match 1-1, which proved to be the final score.

Head coach of the Tigers, Tyson John, was happy with his team’s performance to start on the road.

“I am happy with the work I am seeing from the girls. In the first game out, we have half the team new to the program, and we have the other half from last year,” John said. “It is the way that they play together that makes this special for me.”

As the Tigers did come off short rest against a fresh team, John said he was happy with his team’s effort to try and get their second win of the season.

“It is inspiring that my team came out and played their hearts out, and it’s only the second game of the season,” John said. “If we had another 10 minutes in the match, I think we would have been them.”

The Tigers are set to host their first two home games this weekend at FHSU Soccer Stadium as the team hosts Wayne State on Saturday at noon and Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
