HOT SPRINGS, Ark – Fort Hays State sophomore golfer Morgan Brasser wrapped up her season with a solo seventh-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Division II Central Region Championship with a three-round total of 9-over 225. Brasser turned in a final-round score of 6-over 78 Wednesday (May 4) at the Park Course at Hot Springs Country Club, a par-72, 5,932-yard layout.
With the top three teams and the top two individuals not on those teams moving on to the National Championships in Gainesville, Ga., Brasser finished one shot back of the final individual qualifying slot.
An honorable mention All-MIAA selection for the second year in a row, Brasser finished third amongst the 27 MIAA golfers at this year’s regional. Brasser was the top finisher out of the six individuals selected to compete in the field this season, overcoming a six-stroke deficit after round one to beat MWSU’s Allycia Gan by one shot.
The Andale, Kan. native bogeyed six of her first 11 holes before finishing the tournament with seven consecutive pars. She tied for fourth in the field in both par-3 scoring (1-over) and par-5 scoring (1-under). Her six birdies over the 54-hole tournament were tied for 10th in the field of 51 student-athletes. Brasser finished the week with 35 pars, 13th-most in the tournament, 11 bogeys and two double bogeys.
Host Henderson State took home the team title with a total score of 18-over 882 behind the strength of three individuals in the top five. Reddie Gracen Blount won the individual title by two shots at 1-over par.
Brasser lowered her season stroke average to 77.2 after rounds of 76, 71 and 78 this week. She posted a spring average of 75.9 over 14 rounds, including top 10 finishes in five of six events and her first collegiate victory. Brasser improved her regional finish by five spots after placing T-12th at last year’s regional (17-over 233).
