EMPORIA, Kan. – The Fort Hays State women’s cross country team took first place at the Emporia State Invitational Friday evening (Sept. 24), defeating nine schools and five MIAA rivals in the process. The Tigers picked up 26 team points after placing six runners in the top 12.
Brooke Navarro led the Tigers to the line, placing second with a time of 18:48.66. Abigail Stewart was close behind in third, completing the five-kilometer course at Jones Park in 18:51.29. Emily Salmans earned a top-five finish after completing the race in a personal-best 19:12.44. Jaycee Vath traversed the course in 19:18.95, placing seventh, while Hannah Burks was 11th with a time of 19:41.80.
It was the women’s fourth-straight victory in the race, with the Tigers coming away victorious in each of their last four trips to the ESU Invite (2014, 2016, 2019, 2021).
Emporia State’s Jenna Ramsey won the race with a course-record 18:11.91.
The Tigers’ next race is scheduled for Saturday, October 9 when FHSU hosts the Tiger Open at Sand Plum Nature Trail in Victoria, Kan. The first of four races will begin at 9 a.m.
