So there are some people with signs and loud voices coming to ruffle people up, with their vehicles and their followers, causing hate. Their signs saying arrogant things and they are going to throw their hate in your face and smile.
It is your duty as a proud American and Kansan to ignore it all.
They know they are hated, not welcome agitators, and they know that when they go to towns and protest, that their tires can be slashed, bricks thrown through their windows, and objects thrown at their person.
Their message of hate never changes, and neither does the response to it, and that unchanging response is what allows continuing protest.
“WBC’s travel expenses exceed $200,000 annually. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, “Westboro is funded entirely by its congregation and accepts no outside donations. The church has received money from lawsuits and legal fees.”
Most of the members are Lawyers themselves. They look to anger you, the innocent victim, to cause enough action for them to respond with a lawsuit.
“WBC, through the closely related Phelps Chartered law firm, has collected fees under the Civil Rights Attorney’s Fees Award Act of 1976 when their protests have been unlawfully disrupted,” according to wikipedia.
Just like your 3rd grade bully they want to gain attention, and they get just that. Here are a few examples of response to their protests:
“Shortly after protesting the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey in Oklahoma, members of the Westboro Baptist Church headed back to their minivan, only to discover that its front and rear passenger-side tires had been slashed. To make matters worse, when they drove into town they were unable to find anyone who would repair it,” according to a buzzfeed article this year. A further story on that same site said at one protest “People lock arms to prevent members of the Westboro Baptist Church from attending a memorial service outside the Aurora Municipal Center in Aurora, Colorado. The memorial was for the victims that were killed and wounded during the mass shooting at a movie theater.”
Even though the best course of action is ignoring them, media still posts their protests, people still visit their website granting revenue, and people still chant and try to scare them off.
They are essentially logo’s walking around gaining money from your agitation. We, as an united community, should not even give them the chance to see our faces, or the displeasure from them coming to Hays, Kansas. They should see our proud shoulders from behind us, as we cheer for our champions who will walk across the stage entering their new chapter in life.
In fact these sign-thrusting individuals should feel loved here. Fighting hate with hate only speaks volumes about ourselves. Should we really lower ourselves to their standards?
I pray this will be the last thing ever written about this organization.
here here… well put mr. kee!
