Griffons take battle with FHSU tennis

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Fort Hays State Tennis fell at Missouri Western on Friday (Apr. 2) by a score of 7-0. It was the third straight regionally ranked opponent the Tigers faced as they moved to 3-3 overall and 0-3 in the MIAA on the season. The Griffons improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA.

The No. 2 doubles team of Grace Holgerson and Fiorella Mendez played their opponent closest, falling 6-3. Mendez also produced the most games won in singles action, falling 6-2, 6-2 in her match with Karolina Strom. Stefany Stemmer and Kylie Aufdengarten each won two games in their singles matches. All singles matches were decided in straight sets. Kimberly Stone played an exhibition singles match and fell 8-6.

Fort Hays State will hit the road again next week on Wednesday, April 7 when it heads to Nebraska-Kearney for another MIAA match. The action is scheduled to start at 3 pm.
