Since the launch of FusionFall Retro we have seen the development team update the game in ways that the fanbase were previously unsure were even possible. It is no surprise that fans were ecstatic to receive updates to this now eleven-year-old game. That’s right, this year we celebrate the 11th anniversary of the launch of the original FusionFall and with that, the developers have made a significant update to the game. In this review we will discuss FusionFall the game, the updates from the development team, and Brendan Przywara’s comment about the 11th anniversary.
FusionFall Retro is an MMORPG originally launched in 2009, it was relaunched by a group of talented fans who are known as the FusionFall Universe Development team (in fan circles simply the dev team). The concept of the game is shortly summed up involves an intergalactic conqueror named “Fuse” who is infecting our world with FusionMatter. This Fusion Matter substance is killing our world, and it is up to us and the Cartoon Network characters to stop it. The game features your player avatar fighting their way through evil fusion monsters and doppelgangers of our favorite cartoon characters.
Dexter, boy genius, Along with his rival Mandark were able to develop a weapon made of the very same toxic matter plaguing their planet. Nanos is the crossroads between imaginary energy, science, and fusion matter. They are tiny super-powered versions of your favorite Cartoon Network heroes and villains. Until recently the FusionFall community thought it was impossible to add new Nanos to the game, but update after update have caused their perspectives to change.
Finally, the new decade arrived and with it was the FusionFall Anniversary update, this added long-awaited Nanos for characters who never had one. This could be called the “World Nano Update” as it added additional Nanos not required for leveling up, and they would be called World Nanos. We talked to Brendan Przywara about this update.
John Carter JR (JCJ)- What does the 11th anniversary mean to you and your fellow development team?
Brendan Przywara (BP)- The 11th anniversary is really special. I don’t think anyone thought that FusionFall would be alive and kicking in 2020 with the amount of dedicated support that it has. It truly feels like we’re living the impossible right now, and it only makes us more excited for the years to come.
John Carter JR (JCJ)- Are you excited about the launch of new Nanos and what does this say for the future?
Brendan Przywara (BP)- New Nanos are so exciting! There was a time back when we first launched Retro that all of us collectively thought adding new Nanos was completely impossible. It’s so great to see just how far we’ve come on that front of development. I know that Nanos are things that get people really excited, and there’s a lot of ways to make them really stand out, from writing powers, to animations, to voice lines, to the Nano-missions themselves. I think you can definitely expect to see new Nanos in the future, however, it really does take quite a long time to add everything single component of a Nano, and I think that actually makes adding new Nanos feel more special in the long run, anyway.
(The Belladonna was originally planned for Legacy)
John Carter JR (JCJ)- Recently in a livestream you mentioned not writing the current Belladonna Nano powers, does this mean we will see more writing from you in-game in the future?
Brendan Przywara (BP)- That’s true, I didn’t write the Nano powers that ended up being in the final release. I did write three completely different powers for her, which we’re originally for FusionFall Legacy back when adding new Nanos in Retro seemed impossible. However, we ended up revising them when it came to the 11th-anniversary update, and all three of Belladonna’s nano powers ended up being changed. You’ll definitely see more writing from me in the future, I’ve been writing missions, Nano powers, dialogue, and more for the game since it launched, and that’s not going away anytime soon.
John Carter JR (JCJ)- FusionFall has a dedicated fan base, how has this group of fans affected your life?
Brendan Przywara (BP)- Just by saying “it’s changed my life” still isn’t even giving the fanbase the respect they deserve on how they’ve impacted my life. It’s opened the door to so many opportunities, I’ve met so many of my closest friends, and it’s given me a platform to be creative and do things and create content that people watch and enjoy. I’m not sure what I would be doing right now if the FusionFall fanbase didn’t scoop me up like it did, but I promise it would be so much more boring than what I’m doing right now!
Overall FusionFall Retro is shaping up to be more than the simple game revival, it is a love letter to Cartoon Network’s finest creations and creators by an impressive group of fans. With recent updates introducing more character cameos or characters themselves from all different kinds of shows like Class of 3000, Johnny Bravo, and more we can expect great things from the development team. What will we exactly see next, the Time Squad part 2 and expansion update have been announced and it is only a matter of time before we can see more. The time is now, the hero is you!
