HHS girls fall short against Salina South

By JAYCEE DALE

The Hays High School girls’ basketball team took the home court Tuesday against the Salina South Cougars.

A slow start left the Indians playing from behind most of the game en route to a 44-34 loss.

Hays High started the night slow, only scoring six points in the first quarter compared to Salina’s 17.

The Indians still were not able to grasp a lead against the Cougars in the second period, scoring only five points while trailing 26-11 at halftime.

Still struggling to score against the defensive, the Indians went into the last quarter of the game trailing 38-18.

Hays High tried to chip into the margin, but came as close as 10 points at the final buzzer.

Junior Maia Lummus lead the Indians with eight points, and freshman Carly Lang followed with seven.

The Indians are on the road Friday for WAC play at Dodge City.
