Originally from Wichita Kansas and now a Hays resident and FHSU graduate, David Ortiz has developed a name for himself as “Wavy Davey” the rapper.
David has a style that emphasizes a new wave of hip hop and induces a creative culmination into a new sound. His style and original songs entertain his audience and keep the groove going late into the night, just as he did last Saturday night at the Golden Q.
Ortiz describes his love for music and how he got his start.
“I’ve always been into music, I fell in love with it when I started playing band in 5th grade. We would freestyle at drumline rehearsals and it was always a lot of fun. One time on a trip we decided to make our own song, ever since then I’ve been writing my own songs,” Ortiz said.
“I’ve been making music for about 5 years now, I started right at the end of high school and got a little more serious with it about 3 years ago when I decided to go by “Wavy Davey with a Cape on.”
“The ultimate goal would be to make a full-time career out of music, but in the meantime, I’ll just keep on working at it and performing to see where it goes, I just love doing it,” Ortiz said.
His enthusiasm kept the crowd alive and energized over the course of the evening as his hip-hop rap beats livened the place up this holiday season.
