Fort Hays State Men’s Basketball will open MIAA play on Tuesday (Dec. 3) when it heads north to face Nebraska-Kearney. FHSU enters at 4-2 overall, while UNK is 3-3.
After enjoying a 106-57 win over Sterling College in its home opener on Saturday evening (Nov. 30), the Tigers are back on the road once again. With two road games in MIAA play this week at Nebraska-Kearney and Emporia State, the Tigers will have played seven of their first eight games away from home in 2019-20. The Tigers are 3-2 away from home so far this year.
All five Tiger starters average better than nine points per game. Devin Davis leads the way at 11.7 per game, while Jared Vitztum (11.3) and Jake Hutchings (11.2) are close behind. Nyjee Wright also averages double figures at 10.3 per game. Alvin Thompson emerged with a team-best 17.5 points per game last week in a pair of games, upping his season average to 7.4 per game.
The Tigers rank fourth in NCAA Division II in free-throw percentage, converting at an 84.1 percent rate (95-of-113). Seven players are shooting 80 percent or better at the line.
Fort Hays State holds an 80-51 advantage in the all-time series with UNK. The teams split the regular season meetings last year, each winning at home by three points. FHSU won 76-73 in Hays, while UNK won 59-56 in Kearney.
