While this is the lone regular season meeting scheduled between the Tigers and Griffons, this is the second time Missouri Western has traveled to Hays this season. MWSU opened the year against the same two teams Fort Hays State did, defeating Upper Iowa and Southwest Minnesota State inside Gross Memorial Coliseum over the first weekend of the season.

The Tigers lead in the all-time series against Missouri Western 26-22, including an 18-5 record at home. Fort Hays State has defended its home turf well against the Griffons, winning eight-straight at home over MWSU. The Griffons last won in Hays during the 2006-07 season. Tony Hobson is 10-5 against the Griffons, including a perfect 7-0 mark at home.

The Griffons rank 12th in the MIAA in scoring, averaging 64.8 points per contest. Katrina Roenfeldt paces the team with 15.8 points each night, fourth-most in the conference. Melia Richardson dishes out 3.3 assists per game, tied for fourth in the MIAA.
