MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Fort Hays State men’s track and field team appeared in the Northwest Open hosted by Northwest Missouri State this weekend. On the day, the Tigers captured two national provisionals alongside two first place finishes.
Brett Meyer claimed first place in the 800 meters while also earning a provisional with a time of 1:52.17. The Tigers also captured a provisional mark from Kolt Newell who won the high jump with his first place jump of 6 feet, 8 inches. The two provisionals are the first for Fort Hays State in the early season.
Throughout the day, multiple other Tigers claimed strong finishes, including a third place finish from Oscar Carmona in the 5K. Carmona navigated the track with a new personal record time of 14:55.88. Philip Landrum finished in second in the 60 meters at 6.97, while also earning a fifth place finish in the 200 meters at 22.18. Malcom Gardner captured two top-ten finishes as well, earning sixth in the 200 meters (22.25) and seventh in the 400 meters (50.69).
Israel Barco achieved a ninth place finish in the mile run with a time of 4:19.66, while Reed Rome claimed eighth in the 5,000 meters at 15:25.23. Justin Moore was close behind in ninth in the same event with his time of 15:26.24.
Also in the high jump was a sixth place finish from Lucas Broxterman who completed a height of 6 feet, 4 inches. Ryan Stanley took third place in the pole vault, launching a height of 15 feet, 5 inches, with Mark Faber claiming 10th place with his own height of 14 feet, 5 inches.
Fort Hays State travels to Pittsburg State next Saturday (Jan. 26) for their next competition.
