MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Fort Hays State women’s track and field team took to the Northwest Open hosted by Northwest Missouri State this weekend to continue their early indoor season. Among the competition, the Tigers placed in the top spot in the 5,000 meters and high jump.
Summer Kragel captured first place in the high jump with her mark of 5 feet, 3 inches. Mirena Goncalves took the title in the 5,000 meters after navigating the track with a time of 17:43.05. These first place finishes were the first for the Tigers so far this season.
Alongside the top places, Fort Hays State compiled other strong finishes on the day. Yessenia Gonzales earned fifth place in the mile run with her personal record of 5:13.13. Rohey Singhateh continues to make a name for herself this season following a fifth place mark in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 1 inches. She also claimed a third place mark in the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 5 inches, good enough for a new personal record. Following close behind was teammate Kayla Smith who boasted a distance of 36 feet, 11 inches to claim sixth place in the event.
Lyric Holman captured a top-ten finish in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.27 for a 10th place finish. Also in the mile run was Averi Wilson coming in 10th place with a time of 5:27.54. Mattie Rossi earned a 10th place title in the 60 meter hurdles with her time of 9.43.
Rounding out the top-ten finishes for the Tigers on the day was a fifth place weight throw for Julia Wagner who threw for 49 feet, 1 inch.
The Tigers are back in action next Saturday (Jan. 26) as they travel to Pittsburg State.
